When I got to the AMMS unit at G-F they were having problems getting missiles to pass the guidance system #2 output at combined systems. Most missiles #2 output was too high at completion of the check. They had discovered that missiles that failed the #2 output check usually flew reliable (within the CEP circle) and that missiles that passed the #2 output test more often than not flew unreliably OR had large CEP's.
Tom and I and the rest of the crew, discovered, by using the geodetic survey point, that the Flight Attititude Positioner azimuth 'zero limit switch' was off in relationship to the survey point. So, after consultation with higher headquarters, tech reps, etc, the zero limit switch was repositioned on the FAP and the #2 outputs began to follow with the acceptable limits. Fewer missiles failed the #2 output check.
Naturally during this process, many, many missiles were ran thru combined systems for only the guidance system #2 output checks until confidence was installed among the non believers.
